PDC’s Popular, Free-download”Disaster Alert”App Now for Android OS Users

Disaster Alert makes it easy for users to view active hazards on an interactive map or in a list format, and to click through for more details. Disaster Alert for Android is currently available from Android Market.

Seven months (and 65,000 downloads) after releasing Disaster Alert for iPhone and iPad, Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) makes information on hazards and disasters, worldwide, available to Android-based mobile device users. “Disaster Alert,” a free application published by PDC, gives users of devices running Android software access to the PDC Active Hazards. The overwhelming response to the iPhone and iPad app, convinced the Center to make the app available on the Android mobile devices. The App displays a collection of current and real-time hazards, compiled from authoritative sources around the globe. The events have been designated “potentially hazardous to people, property, or assets” by the automated processes of PDC’s DisasterAWARE decision support system and/or by disaster management professionals who use the system.
