Federal Funds Available through U.S. Department of Energy

In June, the U.S. Department of Energy announced a total estimated funding of over $220 million in federal funds for three competitive funding opportunities through the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

$120 Million for Innovative Manufacturing Programs:

A Letter of Intent for the “Innovative Manufacturing Initiative” must be submitted by August 1, 2011. The application must be submitted by August 25, 2011. This funding supports R& D projects that advance our clean energy economy through manufacturing.

$70 Million for Geothermal Technology Advancement Program:

Applications for the “Geothermal Technology Advancement for Rapid Development of Resources in the U.S.” program must be submitted by July 15, 2011. This program is intended to accelerate the growth of geothermal energy through addressing cost, technical, and risk barriers.

$12.5 Million for the Sunshot Initiative:

A Letter of Intent for the “SunShot Initiative: Rooftop Solar Challenge to Induce Market Transformation” must be submitted by July 29, 2011. The application must be submitted by August 31, 2011. These funds are intended to improve market conditions for rooftop photovoltaics through addressing permitting and interconnection processes, net metering, financing, planning, and zoning.
