Checking in with ArdentMC, Celebrating Two Years on Maui

ArdentMCVirginia-based software development group Ardent Management Consulting celebrated two years on Maui this past summer. ArdentMC is a Small Business Administration-Certified HUBZone company with a goal of adding to Maui’s economy by bringing new federal contract opportunities to Maui along with high tech careers. The firm’s Software Development Center is located at MEDB’s Ke Alahele Center in the Maui Research and Technology Park. The firm has grown from incubator space with two developers to an office with 21 software development professionals and growing. The firm is expanding into additional space at the R&T Park this fall.

What’s new? New applications, new technology, and even a social media campaign for the growing small business.

The firm continues to develop advanced software solutions for federal clients as it has since its inception in 2006. Clients include the SBA, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, Social Security Administration, and the military health system.

ArdentMC established a Solutions Division this year and has developed a mobile situational awareness application for tablets and handheld devices. The product, Sentry Mobile, is launching later this year. Sentry is an event management tool featuring real-time collaboration and communication for security leadership, first responders, and law enforcement professionals using a social media style event stream on a mobile platform. Other unique features of the application include GPS-enabled asset tracking in space and time, intuitive mapping tools, location-aware photo management, location-aware status boards, and reporting capabilities.

The Maui office excels in cross-team collaboration across time zones with our other offices. ArdentMC provides a broad range of collaboration and team tools for projects and employees, so that the Maui staff and DC-based staff can work seamlessly and make sure team communications are not lost. ArdentMC has adopted daily videoconference face-to-face engagements for all projects and continually enhances the tools for team and customer collaboration as new technologies are available. Using the Agile software development method, project teams meet daily to unblock obstacles to keep developers moving forward and the project on-track.

ArdentMC stays current with technology and with the trends. After attending MEDB’s Social Media Boot Camp, the company devised its first social media campaign and is debuting it at the GEOINT 2012 Symposium and Conference in Florida. The GEOINT Symposium is the nation’s largest intelligence event of the year and is hosted by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation. The strategy includes information about the company, pictures from the event, catchy tweets to help the firm stand out in a crowd of thousands of attendees, and interaction with followers. “I was uncertain about value of social media for a technology firm that primarily works in the federal contracting arena,” said Carmel Patterson, Proposal Manager. “After attending the Boot Camp, I’m convinced there is a place for social media in our marketing mix.” She is now attending the MEDB’s Social Media User Group (SMUG) the last Thursday of each month (#MauiSMUG on Twitter). Check out the social media campaign by following @ardentmc and #GEOINT2012 on Twitter.

ArdentMC continues to stay on the cutting edge of technology with investment in its employees. The firm uses the most current software and tools such as HTML5, Mono, and .NET, and invests $2,500 per employee per year in advancement training. “We are showing a commitment to our craft and to our employees by investing heavily in workforce development” said Kaleo Paderes, Deputy Director of Software Development. “ArdentMC is a great place to work and is attracting top talent.”

“ArdentMC appreciates the opportunity to work with MEDB bringing federal contracting dollars to Hawai`i,” said Brandon LaBonte, President. “We have been impressed with the local leadership, available technical talent, investment in key IT infrastructure, and, of course, the local hospitality provided to us. We have secured numerous contracts and have many openings for Maui residents.
