APEC 2011 Hawaii Business Opportunities

President Barack Obama’s selection of Honolulu as the site for the annual APEC Leaders Meeting in November 2011, APEC 2011, will provide a big economic boost and offer business opportunities for businesses throughout Hawaii.

APEC, or Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation is a forum for 21 Pacific Rim countries that seeks to promote free trade and economic cooperation throughout the Asia-Pacific region. APEC works to reduce tariffs and other trade barriers across the Asia-Pacific region, creating efficient domestic economies and dramatically increasing exports.

The APEC 2011 Hawaii Host Committee, which includes executives and leaders from Hawaii’s business, visitor industry, educational and community sectors, has been working to support the APEC 2011 USA efforts as well as capitalizing on the opportunities for strengthening our economy that a high-profile event of this magnitude can bring.  This includes opportunities to generate exposure of Hawaii’s products and services to the APEC participants in November.

Business Innovation Showcase

The APEC 2011 Hawaii Business Innovation Showcase (Showcase) is being developed in partnership with The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, and the City and County of Honolulu, the County of Hawaii, the County of Kauai and the County of Maui. This Showcase has two objectives:

  1. To recognize leading edge innovation and achievement in Hawaii’s business community in order to reinforce Hawaii as a place of strong economic opportunities.
  2. To engage and involve Hawaii’s business community in APEC 2011 Hawaii.

The Showcase provides an opportunity for the over 30,000 businesses registered in Hawaii to submit information, relative to the criteria listed below, for possible recognition in appropriate APEC activities. The program is being developed to showcase innovation in Hawaii’s businesses, products and services. Selected applicants will receive recognition at various APEC 2011 Hawaii programs. These programs could include, but are not limited to, displays at venues where leaders, official delegates, and business executives congregate; virtual displays; and, various media opportunities.

The Showcase is open to all businesses and organizations operating in Hawaii.
